About the Organization
The Iqaluit Housing Authority (IHA) delivers subsidized housing in the City of Iqaluit and provides day-to-day services associated with program delivery to individuals and families. The IHA manages approximately 600 Public Housing units with approximately 1500 tenants. The IHA staff complement consists of 25 staff with an annual operating budget of over $2.7M. The IHA works in cooperation with the Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) by a management agreement to deliver housing solutions and works closely with the NHC Qikiqtaaluk District Office in carrying out the management function of the IHA.
About the Opportunity
The IHA is looking for a full-time General Manager - Iqaluit Housing Authority based in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
Reporting to the IHA's Board of Directors, this role will see you responsible for the full accounting cycle as well as human resources, maintenance, budgeting, rent collections, and administrative functions of the Housing Authority.
More specifically, your responsibilities in this role will include:
- Supervising Administration and Maintenance Staff and keeping proper personnel records
- Interacting with Tenants and other interest groups on a day-to-day basis
- Keeping proper accounting records and reports and liaising with Audit/Consultant staff as well as NHC district staff and preparing annual budgets within established limits
- Ensuring IHA property and structures are maintained at an optimum level
- Providing guidance to the Board of Directors on matters such as housing programs, policies, financial matters, and public housing allocations and acting as Secretary to the Board during all meetings
About You
To qualify, you should have a minimum of a post-secondary education in Business Administration and/or Accounting with five (5) years of management experience, full cycle accounting, and property management, including budgeting, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, cost control and interpretation of financial reports and statements. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, as well as, the ability to speak Inuktut will be considered assets.
Additional qualifications may also include:
- Financial management skills
- Property management and/or housing maintenance experience
- Two (2) years of supervisory/management experience
- Computer training and experience
An equivalent combination of experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed appropriate may also be considered.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving and time-management skills. The ability to coordinate many activities simultaneously and to track the progress of all the activities is crucial. Finally, you must be self-motivated and be able to work effectively as part of a team and individually. Please note this is a non-unionized position. A Criminal Record Check will be required.
